Smoke Boats

Amsterdam’s canal boat tours are legendary, and several operators cater specifically to cannabis consumers. Smoking on the open water is legal, and the experience of drifting past 17th-century canal houses while enjoying a joint is quintessentially Amsterdam.

• Private boat rentals — For groups, private cannabis-friendly canal boats run €250–330 for 1–2 hours. These are popular for birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and groups wanting their own space. Book well in advance during peak season

Coffeeshop Tours

Guided coffeeshop tours are a popular way for first-time visitors to discover Amsterdam’s cannabis scene with a knowledgeable local. Tours typically cost €20–60 per person, last 2–3 hours, and visit 3–4 coffeeshops across different neighborhoods.

A good tour covers:

• The history of Dutch tolerance policy and how coffeeshops actually work
• How to read a menu and choose strains
• The difference between tourist-trap coffeeshops and local favorites
• Neighborhood culture beyond cannabis — architecture, food, street art

Amsterdam has two dedicated cannabis museums, both on the same canal in the Red Light District:

Amsterdam is the global capital of cannabis genetics. Buying seeds is legal in the Netherlands (seeds contain no THC), though importing them to your home country may not be. Major seed banks with Amsterdam retail locations include:
